Caring For Your Office Chair

Posted on: 23 September 2021

Your desk chair is one of the pieces of office furniture that you are likely to spend the most time using. Failing to effectively care for this piece of furniture can result in it suffering extensive wear that may make it less comfortable for you to use or requiring the chair to be replaced prematurely.

Vacuum The Chairs On A Regular Basis

It is often the case that individuals will not appreciate the important task of vacuuming their chairs. Over the course of time, dirt and dust can get pressed into the fibers of the upholstery for the chair. This can lead to the chair developing an unpleasant smell and appearing dull. For those that have leather chairs, vacuuming can remove these particles before they leave scratches in the leather.

Periodically Tighten The Chair's Screws

The screws that hold your chair together can start to loosen. As they loosen, the chair may become less stable, and it may even be possible for components of the chair to suffer warping as a result. Every few months, you should check all of the screws for the chair to ensure that they are secure. Otherwise, they should be tightened, but you will need to avoid overtightening the screws as this could strip them or cause other damage that may inhibit the functionality.

Lubricate The Moving Parts

A common problem that people will experience with their office chairs can be a loud squeaking sound when they are using the chair. This can be extremely distracting to you and those around you. A lack of sufficient lubrication is a common reason for the chair to start making these noises. Luckily, it is easy to correct this problem by applying a small amount of lubricant to the moving parts of the chair. This can substantially reduce the friction that is being generated so that the chair will not make distracting noises. Additionally, this can limit the amount of wear that the moving parts of the chair experience.

Keep The Wheels Clean

Failing to clean the wheels of the office chair can be another mistake that may cause noticeable performance problems. In particular, this could make it much harder to roll the chair across the floor when you are needing to move it. Unfortunately, hair and dust can accumulate in the wheels, which can prevent them from easily turning. Chairs that are used on carpet floors can be especially susceptible to developing these problems, and they may need to be cleaned more frequently as a result.
